Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Welcome to the hippodrome Let me show you to your seat Did you come for the excitement Or the lure of fresh meat? It hit me, apropos of nothing That it’s just curiosity Is it real, or are we bluffing? GIving me the third degree It struck me, like a bolt of lightning That you didn’t even read the finest print The circle is tightening You’re in for the final sprint Welcome to the wildfire You’ll be adjacent to the band But please sign this waver To protect our brand

Bad Penny 03:29
Bad Penny Got a penny in my pocket And it’s driving me mad It’s brought me the worst of luck The only kind I’ve ever had Every time I throw it away I find it on my table It’s trying to tell me something Like some ancient fable Bad Penny, can’t give it away… Don’t ask the questions If you really don’t want to know All the ugly answers Like “What’s under the undertow?” Don’t make suggestions If you can’t go toe to toe Leave it as a mystery Like “What's over the overflow?” I’m trying to spend it But it comes right back to me Sometimes as pocket change Or washed up from the sea I get a real bad feeling When I see it start to shake It’s from the ancient times With the pattern of a snake
3.
You got me going round and round and round and round Chasing my tail I’m pondering pound for pound for pound How I’m keeping out of jail You got me feeling crazy, crazy, crazy My brain is in a spiral I’m feeling kind of hazy, hazy, hazy… And a little bit viral... I’m not in denial Not one little bit It ain’t my style You’re just full of it/it/shit/it/shit You got me drinking gravy, gravy, gravy I’m barely treading water I’m feel as though maybe, maybe, maybe You led a fly to the swatter You’re going all Mopsy, Flopsy, Cottontail, Stealing my lettuce You’re making sure the neighbors and the police Won’t soon forget us I just remembered Something you had said Nothing unimportant But not a watershed Got a nose for trouble A little show and tell No, you’re the one projecting but you can go to hell A simple change of pressure To give me some relief From all the aggravation I’ll try to keep it brief Now I forgot the topic What was it I had said ...at the top of lungs and the bottom of my head
4.
I got a fifty dollar bill, a car with no grill and I feel like heading out For parts unknown in this bucket of chrome, I need to find room to shout It’s been since 72 that the skies were this blue and the air so fresh and clean With the needle near F, I’m catching my breath and cranking up my machine The sun is beckoning westward I’m bringing my metal detector (with me) Johnny Paycheck is on my mind I ain’t got nothing but time All the fools I left behind Can kiss my tan behind I got a paddle and a boat and a cheap remote and I’ve got indefinite plans I’m gonna put in to the river on the edge of town and head for the sunny sands I gotta bear proof pack and a hacky sack, enough food to last for weeks Im Ferdinand Magellan with shark repellent and sunblock for my cheeks The sun is beckoning westward I got my sweetheart investor (behind me) And so I bid you all adieu I’ll miss you all, well at least you and you Now I can call them as I see them I’ll go out as a fire breathin’ heathen The sun is beckoning westward releasing me from my sequester (finally)
5.
Tell me that you need me Tell me that you’ll always be there Tell me I won’t hurt anymore Tell me what I want to hear Tell me I’m good Tell me I’m sexy Tell me I am the best Tell me I’m charming And have the hairiest chest Let me down easy Tell me what I want to believe Tell it to me sweetly It’s kindness to deceive Let me down gently Tell me beautiful lies, tell me beautiful lies All those beautiful lies Tell me I’m the greatest ever That you’re finally satisfied I’m a genius, not just merely clever And I am bona fide Don’t be honest I don’t want the truth Make me a promise And lay it on smooth All those beautiful lies
6.
Scraptown 02:43
Scraptown It’s just across the border where they don’t take no crap Not too far from Lovill’s Creek And down hill from Fancy Gap The people may look homeless The women all have split But they’re a proud people As I said, they don’t take no shit And every winter morning The sky is grey and drab The chimneys are a smoking From the mayor’s bathtub lab …A trip to Scraptown will cost a pound of flesh Every time I’m there, it’s like I’m hanging with David Koresh And just upriver is A unabomber shack You start to feel like A Jeffrey Dahmer snack Yeah him You know the one… The Holy Ghost will receive Your daily praise Them rattlesnakes Will testify your faith

Tool Belt 03:17
They say you should keep it in the bedroom I agree, but be careful of my head wound He could be coming from the shed soon …with his tool belt on I agree everything should be above board Safety net when you’re ready for the cut cord As Zoroaster is my lord …with his tool belt on And with that belt there are the implements to get things done or do them wrong Now with a twist and flick of the wrist It’s a cold kind of mist, beguiling Come take a chance by the seat of your pants While the players sit there smiling There’s money in the worries of the fearful Set a spell and I’ll give you an earful I’ll be here smiling and cheerful …with my tool belt on I guess it’s a matter of habit Something cool you really gotta nab it Hallucination of a twenty meter rabbit …with its toolbelt on

Agent 0 03:13
We’re in a heap of trouble tonight I’m safely in my bubble but something isn’t right There’s evil in the air, but not in my village square I’m not ready to declare emergency just yet… This ought to be somebody’s job Put out a call for Agent Zero We could really use a Hero tonight Lay down your fiddles you useless Neros And rally round Agent Zero for the fight! I think it’s getting out of control Disorder in the streets and in my weary soul We got to do something fast, or lose our fatted ass Won’t someone save us from ourselves? Can someone come and save the day? Where the hell is Agent 0? Did he drop his phone in the toilet again?
12.
Are you gonna talk to me? It’s been so long and I can’t bear it Are you gonna set me free? This is way more stick and a lot less carrot Are you going to hear me out? Do you even want to know what I’m feeling? Or do you just wanna shout? You know that sends me into a deep congealing I want to hear your voice again, even in a whisper You’ll always be a part of me, I’ll always be your mister Are you gonna talk to me? This has gone too far and for way too long Is this how it’s gonna be? You’ve made your point that you know I’m wrong Are you gonna set me free? You won’t give me a chance to answer And now you’re going out to sea Across the equator and the Tropic of Cancer Please won’t you talk to me? Or else just set me free But I know that can never be You’re too much a part of me.
13.
This world has been so good to me But not without slings and arrows Some have left the deepest wounds All the way down to my inner marrow She brings all her better angels Each night and every day She has no time for danger With a heart as big as the Milky Way Some nights she finds me Half awake, in tears She touches me without a word And it all bursts through the weir Do I deserve the pain I’ve suffered? Do I deserve the joys? From treachery at the hands of lovers To those beautiful darling boys I’m struck with disbelief I thought all hope forlorn But in the wreckage of my grief My phoenix heart reborn She brings all her better angels Each night and every day She has no time for danger With a heart as big as the Milky Way She brings her better angels And loves me for who I am She has no time for danger And loves me as the troubled man I am
14.
We got so many different kinds of light We can even compete with the sun You’ve been hiding in the shadows, girl When there’s so much you have done You got so much to illuminate There’s daylight to be won We gotta get you into the light It’s your turn to shine Please take your time Show us your glow We’re all at your runway show Come into the spotlight It’s your night tonight I’ve seen your face in the moonlight And in the noonday sun I’ve seen it the glow of a campfire And it left me so undone Now it’s time to share your flow With each and everyone

Breakdown 03:11
16.
Numb from a recent freeze out Dumb from a lesson never learn’d …A calculated squeeze out Chum in the shark fin’s churn Blind to the cautionary I’d lost all my sense of scale Pretty far from the Virgin Mary Mesmerized by her cautionary tail At a discotheque in Brisbane Her accent from the South of France You’d think my accumulated wisdom Stood a chance against the tentpole in my pants Like a fool I learned nothing The next one let her pheromones fly dreaming of turkey stuffing Not the weight of the pumpkin pie Said goodbye to my inhibitions Hello to the promises of hope Blame it on superstition Weaving a heavy loop of rope Saw her in a small cafe is Lisbon Gave her more than a passing glance You’d think my accumulated wisdom Stood a chance against the tentpole in my pants Crawling out of the smoke and dust in Dresden For some overdue romance You’d think my accumulated wisdom Stood a chance against the tent pole in my pants
17.
You made me tell you all your secrets You held my hand at the setting sun You told me of your future, skipped over much of the past Take me to your Pleasure Garden Show me where to plant my seed Tell me how to meet your need Share your magic weed with me Show me how to… You shared my many demons Slayed them with cunning and with guile We held each other closely, gazed in each other’s eyes What is our next completion? Allow me to surmise?

about

While clocking in at under an hour, the Blusterfields’ II is really a double album of sorts. Separated into two blocks of songs, they are two separate entities. The first block of songs are un- ashamedly ROCK and roll with elements of the Blusterfields’ pop sound, but shows the band dipping into other styles, like rockabilly (Scraptown), sludgy metalism (Beautiful Lies), garage rock (Bad Penny) and swinging blues-infused pop (Henry’s Swing Club), slash and burn punk (Not in Denial) and blistering melodic hard rock for the rest: Apropos of Nothing, Johnny Paycheck, It’s A Tricky Thing & International.

The second block leans more toward the jangling indie pop the Blusterfields presented on their first record, 2022’s The Vicious Afterglow but never strays too far from the rock feel of the first set. Songs like Tool Belt and Cautionary Tail have some of- ten oblique lyrical references while tracks like Fear of Depths, Into The Light and Breakdown are classic pop songs with more direct themes and soaring earworm melodies. Better Angels is the Blusterfields’ first foray into ballads and it’s a sugary confection that is equal parts personal and bombastic. Pleasure Garden is the other slow-ish song on II but with deep psychedelic roots and slyly humorous lyrics. Agent 0 was released as a single in 2022 and a remixed version of this paean to a superhero/superspy that exists in the Blusterfields Universe.
