The Vicious Afterglow
She always said she was a patriot
I thought she knew I was a spy
She mouthed the word “atheist”
I threw my feelings at the sky
...and then the next part got unbelievable
I started out for the money
And stuck around for the show
It always seemed kind of funny
But you should have seen them go
She gave me a little honey
I gave my middle toe
I tried it once for the money
And then again for the vicious afterglow
It was a bug infested laundromat
I came to find a missing sock
I got it from a fellow autocrat
You can imagine my shock
...and then the next part got unbelievable
I started out for the money
And stuck around for the show
It always seemed kind of funny
But you should have seen them go
She gave me a little honey
I gave my middle toe
I tried it once for the money
And then again for the vicious afterglow

January Jones
Can’t you feel my pain?
Don’t you know my heart aches with each night’s refrain?
Can’t you see my tears?
Taking out the garbage with the albino deer
Changing all the locks
Signing on the dotted line and taping up the box
Christmas has gone
I got my January Jones
For you, for you
Can’t you see my joy?
Dancing in the sky just like the birthday boy
Finally got my wish
Far beyond the first blush, which was so delish’
Picture my relief
Open hearted love, beyond all disbelief
Scientists are baffled
and the mystics are unravelled
The Vegas odds are growing
and the Kings and Queens are knowing...

Insomnia
I had a dreadful night
I didn’t sleep a wink
I lay there contemplating
Things I knew I shouldn’t think.
It’s more than existential
Beyond the universe
I’m feeling consequential
Taking things from bad to worse
Lying there in a state of dread
Thinking ‘bout the things that I shoulda said
I should worry bout Afghan kids instead of
All the monsters underneath my bed
Right by my head (all bloody red)
There is no earthly karma
There is no heaven, hell
The assholes all have won
At least as far as I can tell
My boss is Hitler’s cousin
My kid won’t talk to me
My money’s in the dozens
And my fears, a panoply
The Yellowstone caldera
A meteor from space
And there’s the distant terror
Of an evil Martian race
My cough is so suspicious
My girl might leave me soon
Can’t smell or taste delicious
…could be gone by afternoon.
Insomnia… I hate my brain at nighttime.

The Bigger Gun
20 shopping days til the apocalypse comes, are you ready?
I got a mile of toilet paper, 40 cases of freeze dried spaghetti
I can’t wait for the sirens to blow
Locked and loaded, I’m ready to go
I knew this day was gonna come
And now I’m gonna get me some!
My neighbor thought he was my chum
He forgot who had the bigger gun
As chaos descends in my local mall, I’ll be ready.
To defend my WalMart aisle with a wink and a smile, my aim is steady
I got provisions for a thousand days
and an endorsement deal from Frito-Lays!
Armageddon out of here
I got my own atmosphere
Got a storage tank of gasoline
Ain’t no point in going green
I knew this day was gonna come!
And now I’m gonna have some fun!
Hey there, Mr. PhD…
I’ll wipe my ass with your degree
I’m ready for the EMP
I party like it’s 1863!

Too Obvious
My girl is on fire!
Check out the smoke and flame
I’m so full of desire
Soon I’m gonna know her name
She’s a slow burner,
hot all through the night
She’s got an ice cream churner,
So I better treat her right
When I get my courage up
I’m gonna damn sure let her know
Got my moves and my opening line
As soon as she’s off the phone
But what if I’m too obvious?
I might be too obvious
I might be too obvious…
My girl is a pistol
She’s about to go off
Like a cocktail crystal
Built like a molotov...

Zsa Zsa Dinosaur
I was ready for the final show
I was the last to know and the first let go
Had me waiting in an empty room
Time frozen still with a sense of doom
Leftover chicken in a paper bag
I didn’t realize it was a game of tag
Tried to bargain with a face of stone
Got a cold rebuff in a monotone
In the corner, in a uniform
Stood a silent guy to maintain the norm
I knew the drill, having held the bit
He tried to keep his cool. It was a perfect fit.
A wave of calm kept me disengaged
And so it all felt clearly staged
I watched him fidget with his golden ring
I tried to smile like it’s no big thing
A cloud of rage hanging overhead
The vulture’s wings now fully spread
A fog of poison filling up the room
I was ready, just not so soon

Christian Sex Tape
He’s a man of the cloth
And it’s all consuming
At the end of the day, it’s like they say
He’s only human
He’s got the healing touch
And the spirit lingers
The ladies in flock, all swoon in shock
To his magic fingers
He deals with matters of the heart
And it’s bound to be a heavy burden
Some apples fall down from the cart
While every shepherd is a herdin’
He has to minister
To the weak and weary
To give them hope and little dope
To keep ‘em all God feary (sic)
If there is a line
Who should define it?
Who sets the contract terms in blood
And then who’ll sign it?

Happy Planet
Up high, where the rocks touch the sky
And the rivers compete
Down low, with the silicates forming
A sandy retreat
Happy Planet
Sharing your flora and fauna with me
Happy Planet
I’m here for a moment and happened to be
Happy Planet
I’ll dance in your forests and swim in your..
...Seasons of death and rebirth
Reasons for sorrow and mirth
O’er east, where the oceans can kiss
Or they rage at our sins
Far west, where the desserts can burn
Our most delicate skins

Across America
Down in the heart of Arizona
Where the summers get hotter than hell
Nobody dies of pneumonia
Until they fall into a February spell
Some lessons best are left unlearned
I walked across America
I walked across America
To see who I could find
I met a girl from Sedona
Whose Daddy had a cactus ranch
I spoke to him of salad dressing
Which I thought to be an olive branch
Some bridges should remain unburned
I walked across America
I walked across America
To see who I could find
He took his gun from his holster
And asked me if I’d ever tasted lead
I said, “You mean like from a pencil?”
And with that he shot me dead
Some pages never should be turned
I walked across America
I walked across America
Just to be an asshole

I want you, with a little bit of whipped cream
Stop before it’s butter, that’s for the next scene
I want you, with a little bit of barbeque sauce
Vinegar, tomato, doesn’t matter to me, just show me who’s boss
Stop me if you’ve heard all this before tonight...
I want you, with a splash of viniagrette
A little bit of the tangy, with the crunchy bangy bangy of a tete a’ tete
I want you, with a little bit of propane
Careful with the flammable contents around an open flame.
